How Much Will Haunted Houses Cost in 2026? Inside 5 Years of Ticket Pricing Data

We’re pulling back the veil on more data from our annual Haunt Industry Report. Last week we shared otherworldly insights about the biggest dates for ticket sales. Today, we’re examining ticket prices. Let’s slice open the numbers!

One of the biggest questions we get from haunters is “how much should I charge for tickets?” Whether you’re just starting out, or are contemplating a price increase to combat the rising costs of just about everything these days, haunters across the country are concerned about staying competitive. Charge too much and you risk losing sales. But charge too little and you may not be able to cover your own costs.

Where is the sweet spot?

The answer is…it’s changing! Over the last few years, the haunt industry has weathered a whirlwind of pressures…from historic inflation and supply chain squeezes to major shifts in how consumers choose to spend their entertainment dollars.

To find out exactly where ticket prices are heading for the upcoming 2026 haunt season, we pulled the data from the last 5 years of our annual Haunt Industry Survey, where thousands of haunt owners weigh in on their operations.

The main takeaway? The narrative isn’t a straight line of “everything just got more expensive.” Instead, we are looking at a highly matured, deeply polarized market. Here is a deep dive into what you should be charging for a scare this year.

The Death of the $15 Haunted House

For a long time, a crisp twenty-dollar bill was enough to get you into almost any local haunted attraction, with plenty of change left over for cider and donuts. Today, that mid-tier sweet spot is officially a thing of the past.

Our 5-year trend data reveals a massive, permanent migration toward higher baselines.

  • The Decline of the $11–$20 Ticket: In 2021, nearly 40% (39.7% specifically) of all surveyed haunted houses priced their general admission tickets in the $11–$20 range. By 2025, that number had plummeted to just 27.6%.
  • The New Industry Standard ($21–$30): The absolute gravity center of the industry has settled firmly into the $21–$30 tier, which held a commanding 39.1% of the market in our latest survey.

Why the shift?

Haunt owners aren’t just raising prices for the sake of profit. Running a modern attraction has become drastically more expensive. Land and building leases have risen, insurance premiums for interactive entertainment have skyrocketed, and the cost of raw materials has pushed costs up.

For a professional, commercial haunt to keep the strobe lights on and comply with safety regulations, crossing the $20 threshold is no longer optional…it’s a matter of survival.

Despite this shift, haunted attractions remain one of the most affordable family entertainment activities. Just for comparison, here’s how a haunted attraction stacks up against other popular activities:

4 Tickets for a Family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids):

  • $80 to $120 for a Haunted Attraction
  • $140 to $240 for a MLB game
  • $630 to $800 for a NFL game
  • $180 to $400 for a Regional amusement park
  • $100 to $280 for an Indoor water park
  • $394 for Concert Tickets

Why Consumers Happily Pay $30+

While the low end of the market is shrinking, the top end is exploding. The most staggering statistic from our 5-year study is the vampiric rise of the $31–$40 price tier.

The 5-Year Surge: In 2021, a general admission ticket priced between $31 and $40 was an absolute rarity, accounting for a minuscule 1.7% of the market. By 2025, that tier captured 13.8% of all responses…an astonishing eight-fold increase in market share.

So, why are guests willingly handing over $30 to $40 (or more) for a single night out? Because the definition of a haunted house has fundamentally changed.

Haunts charging premium rates are no longer offering a simple 15-minute walkthrough in an old warehouse. They are building all-night entertainment complexes. When you buy a ticket to a modern top-tier haunt, you are often paying for a bundled experience: multiple distinct attractions (like a hayride, a trail, and an indoor grid), expansive festival midways, live local entertainment, photo-op zones, and access to upscale food trucks and local craft breweries.

In 2026, consumers aren’t just buying a ticket to be scared; they are buying an entire evening’s itinerary. Because the production value has scaled alongside the price tag, the perceived value remains incredibly high.

Premium Scream Parks vs. Community Scares

With the traditional middle tier dissolving, the haunt landscape has effectively split into a “barbell” market. On one side, you have the high-end professional scream parks. On the other, we are seeing a fascinating, resilient resurgence in ultra-budget options.

Interestingly, the $0–$10 price range actually grew over our 5-year study, moving from 8.6% in 2021 to 11.5% in recent survey data.

This polarization leaves very little middle ground, creating two distinct types of Halloween events:

  • The Premium Scream Parks ($25–$40+): Commercial, high-tech, asset-heavy operations designed for teen groups, date nights, and hardcore haunt enthusiasts who want Hollywood-level special effects and animatronics.
  • The Community & Charity Attractions ($0–$20): Home haunters, neighborhood yard displays, non-profit charity mazes, and local volunteer operations. These groups are intentionally keeping their entry fees under $10 to capture budget-conscious families who want the classic spirit of Halloween without breaking the bank.

How Much Haunts Charge by Location

Your location plays a massive role in what you should (or what you can) charge for admission. When we looked at the data by region and state over the past three years (since we added venue location as a survey question), clear geographical patterns emerged.

The Northeast Premium ($24.88 Avg.)

Driven by high operational costs and a dense population of historic, multi-attraction commercial haunts, the Northeast is the most expensive place in the country to get scared. Nearly 17% of Northeastern haunts charge upwards of $40.

The Midwest & South Baseline ($19.64 – $22.14 Avg.)

The Heartland and the South remain strongholds for the classic, affordable family night out. States like Indiana ($17.31 avg.) and Ohio ($18.64 avg.) boast incredible haunts that still leverage highly competitive pricing.

The West Coast Shift ($17.32 Avg. Historically)

While rural states like Utah and Idaho are likely keeping the overall regional average low out west, commercial operators in California, Washington, and Nevada are aggressively scaling their prices up to keep pace with steep inflation. The West Coast also has a massive community of donation-based home displays, which could be pushing the overall admission average down.

The Bottom Line for Haunt Season 2026

For haunt owners putting the finishing touches on their 2026 strategy, the data sends a clear message: don’t be afraid to price for your value.

If you are running a high-overhead, professional commercial attraction, trying to slash your prices into the $15-20 range will only squeeze your margins and leave you bleeding out. The $25-35 range is the new normal.

More importantly, haunt fans have proven that they are highly willing to cross the $30 threshold if you give them a full-night experience worth paying for…whether that’s through bundled attractions, interactive midways, or robust food and beverage partnerships.

On the flip side, if you are a community, charity, or home-grown operation, your lower overhead is your greatest marketing asset. By anchoring your price point under $15, you are filling a vital gap in a polarized market, capturing the massive audience of budget-conscious families who still want a local tradition to celebrate.

Know your market, understand your operational costs, and price with confidence. Whichever side of the barbell your haunt sits on, the data shows that our appetite for a good scare is stronger than ever. Let’s make the 2026 season the most successful one yet!
